Initial Artist Statement/Concentration

I have chosen to focus my artwork on the theme of, "Anxiety." Through my artwork I will attempt to give a unique insight into "anxiety" and how I interpret the subject and also highlight how anxiety affects us and our environment. My initial plans are somewhat literal but I am hoping to incorporate some of my metaphorical and figurative ideas into my pieces to add more depth.
I plan to use acrylic paint and canvas board for a majority of my work but would also like to incorporate mixed media and a variety of other surfaces and methods. I would like my application of these mediums, as well as use of color, to also reflect my underlying theme of anxiety and help to emphasize the point I would like to get across.
In addition, I hope to be able to contribute some of my personal experiences and emotions into my pieces, both to create a stronger effect in my art and also to personalize my work. I hope to learn as much about my own self as I plan to further my talents and abilities and perception.

Reflection

With the subject of "Reflection," I interpreted this piece upon my own perspective of myself and how it relates to my reflection in the mirror. As of recently, having to undergo the process of applying for scholarships and also having to write reflective essays about myself, I was in the mind frame of how to translate what I see in the mirror and how I view myself onto a piece of paper for someone to read. Therefore, this train of thought led to the idea of literally drawing myself onto a piece of paper and having it symbolize the inner struggle I am currently experiencing. In addition to this main symbolism of the piece, I have other reflections and repetitions of myself in the piece almost as to convey other perspectives or "distant thoughts" of myself. They aren't as noticeable but nonetheless are still there and can symbolize darker bits of my past that are more reluctant to be placed upon paper.
